The Web Design Cottage and you
The Web Design Cottage aims to provide an excellent, freindly and reliable web design service primarily to clients in the UK. The designer is Michael Reid, originally from Cumbria and retaining a particular interest in providing website design services to small businesses in Cumbria. He is now based in Greece in a cottage on a Mediterranean hillside.
The Web Design Cottage began by designing websites for holiday cottages and guest houses in Cumbria. It has a particular understanding of the needs of holiday accommodation businesses and can provide speedy assistance with things like availability calendars, user-updatable announcement sections, online booking systems, etc. However, it is keen to take on design work for a wide range of small businesses in the UK.
The Web Design Cottage operates largely via email. We will be happy to phone you if you want to speak to us before you make an initial firm decision about employing our services. Then you can expect most of the to and fro of the design process to be done via email. You send materials and instructions; we create a provisional design and upload it; you send us your comments; we make the necessary alterations.
A guarantee of customer satisfaction
When designing a site we only send out an invoice once the site is up and working and the customer is happy with it. In the virtually inconceivable event that you are not satisfied with our work, we will refund any money you may have paid.
Hosting for Web Design Cottage business websites
For the websites that we design we provide fully-managed hosting on UK servers, with your website maintained and kept up-to-date by the Web Design Cottage for only £80 per year. Includes up to six business email addresses. Existing text and photos updated by us at no extra charge throughout the year. Your own control panel to access stats and manage email accounts, etc.
Updating your business website
Our hosting fee covers the cost of updates to existing text and photos over the year. However, if you need to make frequent and/or more major changes to the content, we can install and customise a suitable Content Management System (CMS) to put you in direct control of some or all of the content.
Domain names
Although we can arrange the purchase of a domain name (your web address) on your behalf, we recommend that you purchase any domain names yourself directly from a reliable registrar (the Web Design Cottage is not a registrar). You should keep complete control of the domain name and ensure that it is registered in your name since this is, in effect, the linchpin of the whole operation. We can recommend good UK registrars.
